Built to Serve

Updated: Jan 24

Evan Carmichael

You can be productive, crush your goals, pretend that all the things you’ve acquired mean something but at the end of the day, if you don’t know your purpose, you’ll always feel like something is missing.

It’s time to find your purpose and become the leader you were born to be!

What’s it about?

Think about your five closest friends. Are they happy? Do they live their lives with purpose? Do you?

We put on a fake front for what we want people to see and think about us, but the reality is most people aren’t happy. We’re lost.

You can’t be happy if you don’t know your purpose. It’s not possible. You want more but you don’t know where to start. Here is where you should start!

Humans are built to serve. Some are built to serve the world, while others want to serve the twenty five closest people to them. If you’re not happy, you’re not serving enough people in your life. But how do you serve and who do you serve?

Enter Evan Carmichael, the guy who has studied almost every successful person out there! In his latest book, Evan takes you through a journey of self-reflection to find out your true purpose and who you’re meant to serve in the world.

The book is divided into 4 parts-

  1. Finding your WHO (Your core value)

  2. Finding your WHY (Your purpose through your past)

  3. Determining your HOW (Your plan to fulfill your purpose)

  4. Making money through your purpose (So you can grow and serve more people)

Evan is the Master Yoda to your Luke Skywalker. Filled with practical exercises to help you map out your purpose, his book will leave you feeling like you have the power of The Force on your side!

What I liked about the book?

Lucky for me, I won a signed copy of his book in a giveaway and oh boy am I glad I did!

Evan’s book is the perfect guide for people who are struggling to find their purpose. It helps people get a direction using simple yet deep exercises.

Most self-help books talk about why you need to find your purpose but they never tell you how. Evan doesn’t waste much time explaining why again. He gets straight down to business and tells you how you can find your purpose.

The exercises in the book will take you on a journey of deep self-reflection that might also make you quite emotional. Evan helps you identify your most painful moments of the past in order to determine your purpose. Personally, I loved doing these exercises even though it made me slightly teary-eyed. It felt so rewarding at the end!

Once you have found out your WHY and WHO, Evan guides you masterfully in finding a way to help other people through your purpose and then eventually monetize your actions.

I didn’t know much about Evan Carmichael before I connected with him through Books For Wealth. Reading about his story and the people he met through his purpose made for some quality reading!

“When you give people hope and a path, amazing things will happen.”

What did I not like about the book?

This was one of my most rewarding reads of the year so it would be tough for me to point out any vices of the book.

While the first three parts were amazing, the last part about monetizing your purpose felt like it was missing context. It felt like a narrow approach towards fulfilling your purpose. Evan talks about serving others and making content, etc but there are many ways people can go about fulfilling their purpose.

What’s unfortunate is that Evan’s book is quite expensive in India as a physical copy. If you’ve got a Kindle, it’s a must read!

Key Takeaway-

Humans are built to serve others, whether that means serving the world or serving the twenty five people closest to them. If you’re not happy, it means you’re not living your life with a purpose that’s bigger than you. That purpose has to be found within you. When you find your purpose, it gives you the strength to do things that you never thought were possible.

My verdict-

We’ve all heard successful people go on about how it is important to find our passion, our purpose and how life will be unfulfilling without it. But we never hear them speak about how we should find it. We’ve even spoken about it ourselves and how we are waiting for our purpose to be shown to us. What we don’t realize is that our purpose is something that is within us, not something that the outside world is going to tell us.

Evan’s book is what changes the whole perception about this. Evan reminds us that our purpose can be found in our deepest values and painful moments. Our purpose can be found by how we got ourselves out of these difficult times. Not only that, he holds your hand and guides you towards finding your purpose so that you can live a fulfilling life by serving others!

A must-read book for everyone who feels like they’re yet to find their purpose or is confused about what they’re supposed to do in life!
